Jesus' Teachings On Overcoming Fear

Jesus' Teachings On Overcoming Fear

Jesus' teachings on overcoming fear can be found throughout the New Testament. In Matthew 10:28, Jesus says, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." This verse encourages believers not to fear those who can harm their physical body, but to fear God, who has the power to destroy both the body and soul in eternal punishment.

In John 14:27, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Jesus promises to give his followers a peace that the world cannot provide, and encourages them not to let their hearts be troubled or afraid.

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus teaches about not worrying or being afraid in the Sermon on the Mount. He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Jesus encourages his followers to trust in God's provision and not to worry about their physical needs.

In Luke 12:22-32, Jesus teaches about not being afraid of losing material possessions. He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!" Jesus encourages his followers to trust in God's provision and not to worry about their material possessions.

In John 16:33, Jesus says, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Jesus reminds his followers that they will face trouble in this world, but that he has overcome the world and they can find peace in him.

Lastly, in Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus says, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. " Jesus gives his followers the Great Commission, to spread the good news to all nations, and reminds them that he is with them always, even until the end of the age.

In conclusion, Jesus' teachings on overcoming fear can be summarized as: not fearing those who can harm the physical body, but fearing God who can destroy both the body and soul in eternal punishment; finding peace in Jesus, not letting hearts be troubled, and not worrying about physical needs or material possessions; trusting in God's provision and Jesus' promise that he has overcome the world; and that Jesus is always with us, as He has given the authority to all nations.
